Daisylets will once again sponsor the Goodrich Fun Run in 2012 – Sunday 17th June in Dulwich Park.
Now in its third year, the Goodrich Fun Run 2011 is one of the most highly anticipated and important events on the school calendar. Last year the race sold out with over 500 runners taking part and raising in excess of £5000 for the school. Daisylets are proud to be sponsoring this event for the third year running!
The race will take place in Dulwich Park on 22nd May, with an adults 5k race followed by a one-mile event for children. All runners will receive a medal, t-shirt and goodie bag. Training sessions are provided free of charge to entrants from March.
The Fun Run has become a real community event and is an important fundraiser for the school. The benefits of getting involved extend well beyond race day.
“Last year was my daughter’s final year at Goodrich school and I wanted to do something for the school and FOG in return for all they had done to make the children’s school experience as rich as possible. I had thought about taking part in the Fun Run but 5 kilometers seemed an impossible task. In the school newsletter I saw that there were free training sessions taking place twice a week so I plucked up my courage to join these. Training was challenging but fun and inspiring, the encouragement, meeting others and finding running companions certainly helped. The Fun Run was exhausting but we all achieved it after six weeks of training. After the Fun Run I went on to train up to running 10k and achieved this the week before my fiftieth birthday! Now I run regularly along with other Fun Run veterans and love the experience of being outdoors with new friends keeping fit all year round. ”

Goodrich Community Primary School in East Dulwich is Southwark’s largest primary school with 700 pupils aged 3 – 11. Deputy Headteacher David Tomlinson said the following:
“The Goodrich Fun Run was an instant success when it started two years ago. It is a genuine community event and attracts the largest cross section of participants of any of our fundraising events. We are a large school that has a healthy eating mark and great sports links. This event ties in with our aims at creating a healthy culture for our children.
The Fun element of the Fun Run is essential too – it encourages all children to get involved no matter what their ability or interest in sport generally. It is a great starting point for introducing reticent children and adults to giving something new a go and of course it links directly to the National Curriculum. Our event is well organised and a great day out for participants and the crowd who come to cheer us.
Goodrich is the largest community primary school in Southwark and one of the largest in London. This event strengthens our links with the community and is a real highlight of out school year, genuinely loved by the children. The pride of these children as they walk through our gates on the Monday after the event, beaming with their Goodrich Fun Run Medals held high, is something we treasure and they will never forget!”
